Britton to Receive Prestigious Gold Humanism Award

The Gold Humanism Honor Society, which is dedicated to recognize, support and promte the values of humanism and professionalism in medicine, has named Dr. Willoughby Britton of the Brown University Contemplative Studies Initiatve and the Department of Psychiatry of the Alpert Medical School, as the GHHS Visiting Professor this year.

Willoughby BrittonDr. Britton was recognized for her work at the Decof Cancer Center at Miriam Hospital where she has begun a mindfulness, meditation and yoga program for caregivers at all levels.  Past Honorees include Rita Charon of Columbia University, Irwin Braverman of Yale, and Frank Davidoff of the American College of Physicians.  The Society is committed to working within and beyond medical education to inspire, nurture and sustain lifelong advocates and activists for patient-centered medical care and is supported by grants from the Russell Berrie Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  For information of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, visit their website at http://www.humanism-in-medicine.org/index.php/programs_grants/gold_foundation_programs/gold_humanism_honor_society.
